Teaching math requires an abundance of patience, intelligence, and extreme encouragement. When going into the education field, teachers need to be aware of all perspectives of their teaching career. Educators should be well informed on different teaching strategies, the benefits they will receive in their career, and the pros and cons of teaching. As a teacher, especially a math teacher, one has to be capable of teaching the material from many different aspects since all students learn differently. According to â€Å"Three Teaching Strategies† on IrisPeabody, a first common way of teaching is explicit instructruction. This type of instruction, also known as direct instruction, teaches a certain skill in a highly structured environment.†¦show more content†¦According to the article â€Å"Texas Teaching Salaries and Benefits† on TeacherCertification, Teacher Retirement System of Texas serves more than 1.3 million participants and is one of the largest retirement programs in Texas. As a teacher in this program, 6.4% of compensation is contributed to future retirement benefits. Every school district contributes different amounts for teachers. To be eligible for retirement, teachers have to be 65 years or older with at least five years of service. Also, their age and service credit has to total 80 (â€Å"Tex as Teaching Salaries and Benefits† 1). Another benefit TRS offers teachers is health insurance. â€Å"The program offers four PPO (preferred provider organization) plans and three health maintenance organization (HMO) plans.† Teachers have the choice of which plan they use. This health insurance, which includes almost 500,000 members, covers office visits, preventative care, hospital care, surgery, and prescription drugs (â€Å"Texas Teaching Salaries and Benefits† 2). According to Stephanie Riddle at Redwater High School, when asked what her opinion was on their health insurance, she states, â€Å"Our health insurance costs more every year and the benefits go down.
